"Over one million students don't finish high school each year. That's one in three," remarked President Obama at America's Promise Alliance Education Event in March 2010. But among the options Obama offered in his speech, the initiative to "foster better alternative high schools and transfer schools" is already in the works.
A company by the name of Advanced Career Education Services, or ACES, is providing that alternative. By providing distance education services, they are giving students the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma from the comfort of their own home.
High School Graduation Rates are Too Low
Poor graduation rates have various causes. ACES views its students as people who face "family, cultural, and economic difficulties." The company aims to be the answer for people who would not have had the opportunity to achieve a high school diploma otherwise.
